The Obesity Epidemic – Why And How?
This may be hard to swallow, but about 65% of North American population is overweight, including about 30% obese. By 2020, expect 75% of the population to be overweight. And, you can expect 85% of the population to be overweight by 2030. This is the result of fatty degeneration, which increases our risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes. Low metabolic rate, excess fats in fat depots and organs, and low tissue content of essential fatty acids all occur together.
Refined sugars and starches containing too many calories and too little fiber turn into saturated (hard) fats. Refined sugars, starches, and oils lack the vitamins and minerals necessary for their own metabolism.
But Omega 3 fatty acids, which increase metabolic rate, can be used for weight loss. One woman in California lost 80 pounds of excess fat by adding 3 tablespoons per day of fresh flax oil to her dietary program. She had been eating relatively nutritious foods for some time, without effect. The addition of the flax oil was the missing key for her.
Weight watchers may find it hard to believe, but here is a ‘fat’ (actually, an oil) that can make fats burn more rapidly. The story illustrates the importance of knowing the difference between killing and healing fats. The right kind of fat can help you lose weight.
Omega 3 fatty acids help in weight loss in three major ways. I’ll explain how in the next post.
